LION (2016)

I feel like a lot of people have come away from La La Land like I have with Lion. I heard the hype and enthusiastically placed my chips. The true story of a little boy getting inexplicably lost and raised by adoptive parents promised to be a right tearjerker. Nicole Kidman is brilliant. And for that I'm truly grateful! However, I had eyedrops on hand ready to re-moisten my eyeballs yet I didn't shed a single tear.

It's nice to see Rooney Mara being jovial for a change, but i'm not sure I believed that Dev Patel was that kid. And like Room last year, this film belongs to the little boy; Sunny Pawar shines while Dev takes all his glory (Bette Milder sang a song about it). He's terrific!
