Hacksaw Ridge
HACKSAW RIDGE (2016)
Mel Gibson eh? Apparently he's always been an on-set prankster. Well he doesn't half play a trick here. He lulls you into a false sense of security and then destroys you.
The first half is beautifully shot; all the women are beguiling, all the men are handsome, the foliage couldn't be greener, the sky bluer. It's so idyllic it's as if George Lucas created it for a prequel.
And then they go to Hacksaw Ridge and you wish special effects hadn't advanced so far. It's just relentless horror.
Andrew Garfield is so amiable. The entire cast (largely Australian - nice one Mel) are great. And the story is just unbelievable. In a good way.
8 exhausting thumbs up!
