Dunkirk
DUNKIRK (2017)
I never really know what to say about films depicting harrowing real life events. So lets just focus on the filmmaking! It was great, but also, I haven’t thought much about it since watching it last June and don’t feel I need to see it again.
I loved and hated the urgency with the ticking clock soundtrack. Naturally it was meant to be an agonising watch (no pun). I loved Mark Rylance’s warm and unflappable father figure captaining his small boat with his symbolic innocent passengers.
Same goes for Kenneth Branner. Harry Styles slotted in perfectly and didn’t jar as expected. But it wasn’t so much about actors or performances and more a savage experience to honour what happened.
8 thumbs up!
